  1. Do you have this problem? I have a 7100AV, with the headphone jack
  2. in the back. I also have a blaster with a CD input. Its nice to
  3. be able to use the blaster for hi-fi sound output, but I also
  4. like to use my blaster for music while I work.

  6. The problem is that the Mac also tries to behave like a stereo,
  7. in that it mutes the speaker when you plug a jack into the
  8. headphone output. The good news is that this behavior on the Mac
  9. is done in _software_. Instead of crawling around to the back of
  10. the machine and unplugging the headphone jack, you can open the
  11. sound control panel, and uncheck the "Mute" checkbox for the
  12. Built-in sound output driver. Of course having to open the sound
  13. control panel whenever you reboot is almost as much of a pain as
  14. physically unplugging the jack.

  16. Unmute-it is a simple application program that sets the mute value
  17. "off" for the internal speaker, allowing sound to be played through
  18. the internal speaker, even when the headphone jack is in use. Also
  19. included in this package is an init that you can place in your
  20. extensions folder to unmute the speaker on reboot.

  36.     Option 1 - as above, use your stereo for music _and_ mac sound.
  37.     Option 2 - Run a wire from your mac to the mac in the next cubicle,
  38.     so you can both listen to music without having volume wars.
